More news from Oil and Gas Controlstar Systems Ltd is providing an integrated process control and monitoring package plus a full drilling rig data acquisition system for Northland Energy Systems, part of Precision Drilling of Calgary Alberta, Canada. Precision Drilling specialize in an advanced technology known as UDB (Under Balanced Drilling). Contrary to long-term practice, wells are drilled in a negative balance, and this allows the well to produce at higher efficiency, it also means the wells can move to a production status even during the exploration process. A single Controlstar® will provide control of the complex 10,000 pounds per square inch Process, there will be SCADA displays both on the drilling floor and in the operations control room. The second half of the project is for a data management system which will take data feeds from the Controlstar® handling the process and other third party contractors such as Mud logging and the direction drilling engineers. This data system is known as WITS (Wellhead Information Transfer System). The Controlstar® WITS server will provide a specialized display facility for all the users on the rig together with the ultimate client Shell based in the Hague. A primary design requirement was that the system should be capable of being rapidly reconfigured, and that it should be easy to move the whole package to other rigs; the flexibility of the Fusion support package met Precision Drilling’s demanding requirements. |
