Up to 16 actuators handled by a single Controlstar®

Controlstar Systems Ltd have a remote condition monitor system for Rotorks EH Actuator range. The project was undertaken to provide BP with performance information for eleven ESD actuators on their North Sea Unity Platform. The system uses Partial stroke testing with the Controlstar® providing data acquisition. The detailed condition monitoring information covers the operation of the whole ESD system, reducing down time and costs, while improving confidence in the integrity of the equipment
Live diagnostics of all system components including pump, motor and solenoids.

Each actuator provides position and pressure data, along with 48 other digital status channels, at a rate of 100 complete up dates per second. A single Controlstar® unit located on the platform continuously monitors the data from each actuator. The Controlstar detects when one or more actuators are performing an open or a close operation, and performs a high-speed capture of the data from the actuator. Once the open/close operation has completed, the captured file is transmitted to a PC running Controlstar Systems SCADA software, where data can be viewed. The SCADA software continues to show the live update of all analogue and digital data.

Operating times and performance are logged to provide key preventative maintenance data.
Position and movement monitoring including operating pressure and status.
‘Footprint’ Torque profile of actuator stroke characteristics sample at 100 times per second and time and date stamped.

Using the SCADA software, an operator can view a history of open and close operations that have been performed by each actuator and view multiple graphical plots simultaneously. The graphical capabilities of the SCADA software allow multiple captures to be overlaid, showing how the performance of an actuator varies over time.

Data can be plotted as pressure and position against time, and pressure against position.

Remote Monitoring of operating commands include local/remote, ESD and pressure stroke.
Controlstar® supports continuous or intermittent connection by Ethernet, Radio, GSM or PSTN.
